Title: Hybrid Human
Description: This piece was one of my most challenging pieces for sure, though in the end, it proved to be quite an adventurous and helpful piece. In this piece, I was tasked with the theme of human hybrids, and with that concept, I wanted to make something apocalyptic. This piece features many variations in textures and glazes. I wanted to use a human skull but carve into it to showcase the decay that has happened for years since this body decayed. Inside the skull resides two creatures, a bird and a coyote–even though they both look very unrealistic due to the vibrancy and the mutations, I wanted to reference the fossil of the two dinosaurs who died together. Using ceramics as the medium for this piece helped to convey this idea with clay being such a natural material it simply lends itself to the piece. Overall this is one of the pieces that pushed me the most but I am happy with the result.
